The massive damage caused by the Tsunami disaster calls for major reconstruction of the devastated areas in the southern and the eastern coasts of Sri Lanka. Construction of houses for the affected families is identified as the immediate requirement. Towards this effort, The Sri Lankan community in Houston, Texas, has collected funds to be utilized for building houses for the needy families and community buildings. The funding of this project will be coordinated through Attanagalla Raja Maha Vihara in Sri Lanka and the Houston Buddhist Vihara. Two organizing committees, one in US and one in Sri Lanka have been set up to coordinate and execute the project. As the first stage of the project the team plans to build 22 houses in Southern Sri Lanka.
