Schedule
The project execution is completely handled by our SL committee which includes several professional engineers. The committee members have firsthand knowledge of the current construction environment in Sri Lanka and have extensive experience in managing construction projects. The team recognizes the scarcity of building materials and the skilled labor due to the vast construction program in the country. Therefore, the application of appropriate technology and the use of locally available raw materials were favorably considered in selecting the building plan.

Primarily due to tireless efforts by our SL Team, we successfully obtained all necessary approvals and custody of the land. Contractor was selected and the contract was signed on March 8, 2005 between HBV and the contractor. (Link to photos) The contractor mobilized immediately and site preparation and foundation excavation began on March 10, 2005. A qualified technical officer has been employed to monitor and control the site progress.

The foundation laying ceremony was presided by the Hon. Chamal Rajapakse, Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries. Ven Pannila Ananda of Attanagalla Rajamaha Vihara, Ven Nanda, the chief incumbent of the local temple, SL Team, the house recipients and a large number of area residents were present. (Link to photos) With the innovative technology developed by Center for Housing, Planning, & Building of Sri Lanka (CHPB@sltnet.lk), we estimate about 3 to 4 months of construction time to complete all the 22 houses.

Budget
The floor plan adopted use of low cost building materials. The current estimate of a house is about $4,500 (about 450,000 SL Rupees). Our budget for the project is about $100,000 (10 Million SL Rupees) allowing for some future price escalations and indirect expenses. All aspects of the construction management work, except for the fulltime on-site technical officer, is handled by volunteers and anticipated administration cost of the project is almost zero.
